Erasmus+ Project – Palermo in Berlin
From 8th to 14th of May our Erasmus+-partner school, Liceo Classico G. Garibaldi from Palermo, visited SchuleEins and, of course, Berlin. Since last school year we are working on a project, that investigates how Migration, and specially immigration, affects the cities, their society and how politics is dealing with the situation. Last year we have been to Palermo in September and we had an interesting insight in the citys struggles with the sheer amount of immigrants and the way, Palermo and it’s inhabitants deal with it. We particulary talked to nongovernmental organisations, since state institutions were not available whilst our visit.
During their visit in Berlin the Palermitans also got a glimpse in nongovernmental help offered by the Stadtmission, a protestant institution. They run a refugee café in the district of Neukölln, where 40 refugees live, work and gather with other inhabitants from the area. The aim is to create an environment of friendship and to integrate the refugees into Berlin society. We could ask loads of questions and got a good insight in daily life and the struggles, the institution has to deal with.
Furthermore we visited the central registration center for refugees in Reinickendorf, where we had a guided tour. Interestingly we leraned, that all immigrants have to go to this specific institution to get registered and to ask for Asylum. At the moment nearly 40.000 registered immigrants live in Berlin. The students had the chance to ask everything they were interested in and to really have a deep insight into the registration process and the circumstances, the immigrants are living in. We were all pretty impressed by the system, the efficency, the new accomodations und the kindness of the employees.
Besides our project we also did some excursions: a bycicle tour to Potsdam, dinner in Charlottenburg and a city tour through the city center and thus through the history of Berlin. For sure we also talked about the long history of immigration to Berlin, that made our city the famous, beautiful and fascinating place, it is today.
All in all we had a really great time together, could exchange our oppinions, interests, problems and interests and really created close connections to each other. The Erasmus+ project between our schools will go on in the next years and thus the honorable idea of Erasmus+, connecting our european nations and students, will be continued succesfully.

Vom 8. bis 14. Mai besuchte unsere Erasmus+-Partnerschule, das Liceo Classico Garibaldi aus Palermo, SchuleEins und Berlin. Seit letztem Schuljahr arbeiten wir an einem Projekt, das untersucht, wie sich Migration und insbesondere Einwanderung auf die Städte und ihre Gesellschaft auswirkt und wie die Politik mit der Situation umgeht. Letztes Jahr waren wir im September in Palermo und hatten einen interessanten Einblick in die Probleme der Stadt mit der schieren Menge an Einwanderern und in die Art und Weise, wie Palermo und seine Bewohner damit umgehen. Wir haben insbesondere mit Nichtregierungsorganisationen gesprochen, da staatliche Institutionen zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht verfügbar waren.
Bei ihrem Besuch in Berlin erhielten die Palermitaner auch einen Einblick in die nichtstaatliche Hilfe der Stadtmission, einer protestantischen Einrichtung. Sie betreiben ein Flüchtlingscafé im Bezirk Neukölln, in dem 40 Flüchtlinge leben, arbeiten und sich mit anderen Bewohnern aus der Umgebung treffen. Ziel ist es, ein freundschaftliches Umfeld zu schaffen und die Flüchtlinge in die Berliner Gesellschaft zu integrieren. Wir konnten jede Menge Fragen stellen und bekamen einen guten Einblick in das tägliche Leben und die Schwierigkeiten, mit denen die Institution zu kämpfen hat.
Außerdem besuchten wir die Zentrale Registrierungsstelle für Flüchtlinge in Reinickendorf, wo wir eine Führung hatten. Interessanterweise haben wir gelernt, dass alle Einwanderer zu dieser speziellen Einrichtung gehen müssen, um sich registrieren zu lassen und einen Asylantrag zu stellen. Derzeit leben knapp 40.000 registrierte Einwanderer in Berlin. Die Studenten hatten die Möglichkeit, alles zu fragen, was sie interessierte, und einen wirklich tiefen Einblick in den Registrierungsprozess und die Umstände zu bekommen, in denen die Einwanderer leben. Wir waren alle ziemlich beeindruckt von dem System, der Effizienz, den neuen Unterkünften und dem Freundlichkeit der Mitarbeiter.
Neben unserem Projekt haben wir auch einige Ausflüge gemacht: eine Fahrradtour nach Potsdam, ein Abendessen in Charlottenburg und eine Stadtrundfahrt durch die Innenstadt und damit durch die Geschichte Berlins. Natürlich haben wir auch über die lange Geschichte der Einwanderung nach Berlin gesprochen, die unsere Stadt zu dem berühmten, schönen und faszinierenden Ort gemacht hat, der sie heute ist.
Alles in allem hatten wir eine wirklich tolle Zeit zusammen, konnten unsere Meinungen, Interessen, Probleme und Interessen austauschen und wirklich enge Verbindungen zueinander aufbauen. Das Erasmus+-Projekt zwischen unseren Schulen wird in den nächsten Jahren weitergeführt und somit wird die ehrenvolle Idee von Erasmus+, unsere europäischen Nationen und Studierenden zu verbinden, erfolgreich fortgeführt.
